Solar resource assessment

Irradiance analysis and solar resource characterisation for PV projects.

Overview

Solar resource assessment

We characterise the solar resource at your site using satellite and ground data.

The result is a robust irradiance basis for yield modelling.

Solar resource assessment
What it covers

Scope in detail

Irradiance analysis

Irradiance analysis

We analyse GHI, DNI and diffuse irradiance components from the available data record for the site, characterising the resource across seasons and years rather than relying on a single annual average that can mask real variability. The analysis identifies data gaps, quality issues and any systematic bias in the source data before it feeds into yield modelling, since an unchecked irradiance dataset can quietly skew every downstream calculation.

Data sources

Data sources

We combine satellite-derived irradiance datasets with any available ground-based measurements, weighting each source by its known accuracy and proximity to site, rather than defaulting to a single dataset because it's convenient. Where ground data exists, we use it to bias-correct the satellite record for the specific site rather than treating both sources as independently authoritative.

Variability

Variability

Inter-annual variability in the solar resource is quantified from the multi-year data record, giving the client a realistic picture of how much annual yield can be expected to swing from year to year rather than a single deterministic figure. This variability feeds directly into the P50/P90 uncertainty analysis, since a site with high inter-annual variability needs a wider confidence band than one with a stable, well-characterised resource.

Resource report

Resource report

Findings are consolidated into a solar resource assessment report documenting the data sources used, the analysis methodology and the resulting resource characterisation, structured so a lender's technical advisor can verify the basis for the numbers without needing to repeat the analysis. The report states data quality and limitations plainly rather than presenting a polished figure without its underlying caveats.
