Wind analysis

We analyse wind speed, shear and turbulence intensity from the available mast or remote-sensing data, characterising how the resource varies with height, direction and season across the site rather than reducing it to a single mean speed. Shear and turbulence in particular drive turbine loading and suitability decisions, so we treat them as first-class outputs of the analysis, not secondary statistics.

Met mast measurements are combined with long-term reanalysis data to extend a typically short on-site measurement period into a statistically representative long-term wind record, using the correlation methodology appropriate to the data available. We assess mast data quality — sensor calibration, siting, data completeness — before relying on it as the basis for the long-term correction.

Suitability

Suitability

We assess turbine suitability against the site's measured wind class, turbulence intensity and extreme wind conditions, checking the proposed turbine's design class against IEC 61400-1 site classification rather than accepting the developer's turbine selection without independent verification. Where a turbine's design class doesn't comfortably cover the site's actual conditions, we flag it as a material technical risk.

Resource report

Resource report

Findings are consolidated into a wind resource assessment report documenting the measurement campaign, long-term correction methodology and resulting wind resource characterisation, prepared to the standard a lender's independent engineer expects to see. The report is structured so every figure can be traced back to its source data and the specific method used to derive it.
