Technology & vendor review
Assessment of technology choices, equipment and vendors to surface technical risk.
Technology & vendor review
We evaluate the selected technology, equipment and vendors for suitability, track record and risk.
The outcome supports procurement and financing decisions.

What this involves
The equipment and vendors chosen for a project determine much of its long-term reliability, and a weak selection is expensive to unwind later. NEWATT independently assesses the proposed technology, major equipment and the vendors behind them so that technical risk is understood before contracts are signed.
Our review looks at the maturity and track record of the technology, the ratings and suitability of the equipment for the site and duty, the manufacturer's quality systems and references, and the commercial exposure created by single-source or long-lead items. We flag where a substitution, a second source or a tighter specification would reduce risk.
The result is a concise vendor and technology assessment that supports procurement and financing decisions — highlighting where the selection is strong, where it carries risk, and what conditions or warranties should be secured to protect the owner and the lender over the life of the asset.
Scope in detail

Vendor evaluation
We assess a vendor's track record, financial standing and delivery capability against the scale and complexity of what they're being asked to supply, drawing on reference projects and, where available, direct feedback from previous clients. This isn't a generic capability questionnaire — we focus on whether the vendor has actually delivered equipment of this rating, in this environment, at this volume before, which is a different question from whether they say they can.

Equipment review
Equipment ratings, design margins and technical suitability are checked against the project's actual duty — fault levels, ambient conditions, operating regime — rather than the vendor's standard product literature. Where equipment is being pushed close to its rated limits, or where a design margin looks thinner than the application warrants, we flag it as a finding the client should weigh before committing to that vendor or that specific model.

Warranty & support
We review warranty terms, performance guarantees and the vendor's O&M and spares support commitments against what the project actually needs over its operating life, not just what's offered as standard. Gaps — short warranty periods relative to project financing tenor, unclear spares lead times, or support commitments that lapse after a fixed period — are flagged as commercial risks the client should negotiate before signing.

Risk flags
We flag single-source dependency and obsolescence risk where a vendor's equipment, spares or software creates a lock-in the client may not have fully considered, particularly for control systems and specialised components with long replacement lead times. Where credible alternative vendors or sourcing strategies exist, we note them, so the finding comes with a practical path forward rather than just a risk flagged without a mitigation option.
